The port city of Valparaiso is the site's protected by UNESCO. The city formerly known as the "Jewel of the Pacific".
The fire spread from the area filled with shrubs and pine forests near the road that connects Valparaiso with several villages. Tempartur warm and strong winds made the fire spread to other regions and destroyed approximately 500 acres of land.
Local authorities ordered the immediate evacuation to save lives. The evacuation process was carried out by the military and police in villages near Valparaiso.
"We have taken the decision to implement durat status in Vina del Mar and Valparaiso. Steps performed preventive evacuation of around 4 thousand to 16 thousand people, depending on the intensity of the fire," said Deputy Interior Minister Mahmoud Aleuy Chile, as quoted by ABC Australia, Saturday ( 03.14.2015).
This is not a new event occurs in Valaparaiso. The city is basically still trying to rebuild from a fire that occurred in April 2014, killing 11 people.
