"It is too early to look for certainty of the number of victims. Initial reports said that this natural disaster could be one of the worst in the Pacific region," said UNICEF Executive Director Vivien Maidaborn New Zealand, as quoted by the Telegraph, Saturday (14/03/2015).
"The amount of body strength and plus unpreparedness society, can cause destruction in parts of this region," he added.
Residents in the capital Port Vila spend time at the shelter, when the storm struck. When the storm abated, they saw severe damage in the surrounding neighborhood.
"The current situation is very bad. The house was destroyed, trees uprooted and roads blocked. Residents venturing to ask for help," said Save the Children volunteer, Tom Skirrow in Port Vila.
While the head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Pacific, Sune Gudnitz say, the death toll will probably continue to grow. For the moment, it did not know the exact number of deaths.
